It’s hard to believe that Christmas is less than two weeks away, particularly since we have been enjoying so many fantastic days outdoors in t-shirts and shorts. Nonetheless, Santa will be here soon and the run of holiday fun will come to an end for 2015. We have every intention of finishing out the year strong by attending as many area events as possible, from the Avalon Theatre’s rendition of ‘A Christmas Story’ to a second (or third) trip to enjoy the Winterfest of Lights. Of course there is still some local shopping to be done, but in between supporting local and devouring Christmas cookies, you can find us out and about exploring the shore. Take a look at what’s in store over the next few days…
A Christmas Story at the Avalon Theatre
When: Friday, December 18 (7pm) & Saturday, December 19 (7pm) & Sunday, December 20 (2pm)
Where: The Avalon Theatre, Easton
What: The historic Avalon Theatre of Easton will be featuring a theater performance based on the beloved holiday classic, A Christmas Story. The play, put on by the Avalon Foundation, is an Eastern Shore tradition in its own right. It is also the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Foundation. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for students.
Ocean 98 Listener & Seacrets Customer Appreciation Party
When: Friday, December 18, 5pm-10pm
Where: Seacrets, Ocean City
What: Ocean 98 and Seacrets are teaming up for their annual listener and customer appreciation party. Enjoy drink specials, complimentary appetizers, door prizes, a Chinese auction and live performances by Lower Case Blues, Amy Fairchild, Drymill Road and more. Admission is free, but partygoers are encouraged to bring a gift or a donation for Toys for Tots.
Winterfest of Lights
When: Thursday, November 19-Monday, January 3
Where: Northside Park, Ocean City
What: Hundreds of animated, lighted displays and over one million holiday lights will illuminate Northside Park in OCMD for the annual (and much beloved) Winterfest of Lights. This year’s holiday fun begins on Thursday, November 19 with the tree lighting and kickoff event. Winterfest of Lights is open on Sunday through Thursday from 5:30pm until 9:30pm, Friday and Saturday from 5:30pm until 10:30pm.
Christmas Train Garden
When: Saturday & Sunday, 1-4pm
Where: Pocomoke River Canoe Company
What: Saturday and Sunday afternoons (from 1pm-4pm) the Pocomoke River Canoe Company hosts their annual Christmas Train Garden. The Corrdrey Company Crossing Train Garden is reminiscent of Snow Hill many years ago. Children and parents alike will enjoy the enchanted wonderland.
Horse & Carriage Rides with Santa
When: Saturday and Sunday
Where: Berlin and Ocean City
What: Nothing says winter wonderland quite like an old-fashioned horse-drawn carriage ride. Fortunately, there are several options for holiday carriage rides on Delmarva, including in Berlin and Ocean City. Berlin: Every Saturday in December on Main Street. Ocean City: Saturdays and Sundays in December, 10am-4pm on the Boardwalk.
The Polar Express at the Mar-Va Theatre
When: Sunday, December 19, 10am & 7pm
Where: Mar-Va Theatre, Pocomoke
What: The Mar-Va Theatre will be showing The Polar Express this Sunday, December 19 at 10am and 5pm. Tickets are $7 for the 10am showing and include a kids bag of popcorn and a drink voucher for a small drink or admission to the hot chocolate bar. BYOM – Bring Your Own Mug! Prizes will also be awarded for best mug and for best PJs. The evening showing will be the standard rate of $5, but PJs are still encouraged.
