On a dreary Tuesday, there’s only one thing that can get us feeling festive and cheerful, and that’s Fat Tuesday! The Mardi Gras celebration is today and while we are not fortunate enough to be celebrating it in style in New Orleans this year, there are still plenty of celebrations to partake in locally. Traditionally, Fat Tuesday marks the day before Ash Wednesday, which is also the first day of Lent. Simply translated, Fat Tuesday means Mardi Gras in French and signifies a day of feasting before the fasting season of Lent begins. Of course it’s not a feast without some New Orleans inspired food specials (and a few drink specials too), so we’ve picked a few options for our Mardi Gras fun this evening, from wine pairings at Sello’s to fantastic Mardi Gras specials at Sunset Grille. In Salisbury, Brew River will be going strong until 2am, while Roadie Joe’s plans on celebrating all week-long.

Sello’s Italian Oven & Bar is putting their own spin on Carnevale this evening with their Carnevale Appetizer Pairing. The party starts at 6pm and is $60 per person (tax and gratuity included). Gamberi & Grits will be paired with Skyfall Pinot Gris from Washington; Oysters Diavolo al forno will arrive with Hess Shirtail Creek Chardonnay from California; Gumbo Italiano accompanied by Madrigal Petite Sirah; and Panettone Pudding with Josh Cellars Zinfandel.

If you’re looking for a little late night Mardi Gras fun this evening, head to Brew River in Salisbury. The party starts at 10pm with two-for-one drink specials and entertainment by DJ Nuke’m all night long.

Sunset Grille re-opens today, which means they are ready to celebrate with BIG specials, including $.99 (yes, that’s 99 cents) lunches Tuesday and Wednesday. But that’s not all! The Mardi Gras party begins at 3:30pm with plenty of drink specials, including happy hour until 7pm with $1.25 mixed drinks, $1.75 bottled beer, and $3 glasses of wine. For food specials on Fat Tuesday, Sunset Grille is featuring a three-course New Orleans themed feast for $14.99. There are several options to choose from for each course, including chicken & andouille gumbo, etouffe royal, cayenne salt & pepper brick chicken, and bourbon pecan pie, to name a few.

From today (Feb. 9) until Saturday, enjoy a fantastic selection of New Orleans-inspired dishes, including oyster po’boys, crawfish boil, red beans and rice, gumbo, foie gras, king cake and more. That’s not all, tonight there’s beads and masks, karaoke and a live DJ from 9pm until 2am, and drink specials all night long like $2.25 Natty Bohs, $3 Coronas, and $4 huggie bombs.
