You might remember this article from July when we took Food Truck Fridays at Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach, DE for a spin. Well, with cooler weather on the way, the group is looking to raise awareness for their ‘The Fruits of Fall’ event:

Food Truck Friday will celebrate ‘The Fruits of Fall’ on Friday, September 9, from 4 to 8 pm. Organizers and vendors are looking forward to cooler weather. “We had some very hot days this summer. The heat radiating off the parking lot was hard on the vendors,” says, organizer, Susan Selph. Some food trucks are equipped with air conditioning, and some are not. Seating areas for customers were more comfortable. The church has picnic tables under shade trees, and tables inside in the air conditioning.

August events celebrated watermelon and blue crabs. Free slices of watermelon, recipes, coloring books, and carving ideas were available on August 11. On August 25, several Coast Day Crab Cake cookbooks were given away. September events will focus on apples and pears. October will bring an oyster fest and ‘Pumpkin Palooza.’ “Our area is so rich in fresh, seasonal food. We want to show our appreciation for it,” says Selph. Event planners are building relationships with organizations like the Delaware Department of Agriculture, the Mar-Del Watermelon Association, and the University of Delaware’s College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment, and the Center for the Inland Bays. “It’s important to us to be educated about how the land and sea support us, and about what we need to do to be responsible stewards of the environment,” says Selph.

Vendors for September 9 will include A Latte’ Soul, Delicious Craving, Drift’n Kitchen, Hot Dogs at the Beach, Po’ Boys Creole, Rosenfeld’s Roadside Jewish Deli, The Sea Hogg, and Sno Yo, serving Hopkin’s Farm Creamery ice cream.

Live music will be provided by East of the Mason Dixon Line. The band plays rock, blues, and folk rock.

Food Truck Fridays are a fundraiser for The Food & Love Soup Kitchen, Epworth Skate Park, and Epworth UMC. Events are held at 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth, DE. For more information, please visit www.eumcrb.org/Food-Truck-Fridays or follow them on Facebook here.
