It’s nearly Labor Day weekend, a bittersweet time for many of us. For some, school is starting and summer seems to be over. For others, it’s the start of their favorite time of year, where they can enjoy the less crowded beaches. With this reminder that fall is on its way, we start thinking about all the ways we want to enjoy the last few weeks summer. Here are a few ideas to get every last drop out of summer before we start thinking about apple picking and pumpkin pies.
Farmers Markets
We love fresh summer produce. It’s still a great time to visit your local farmers market and shop local! Plus, shopping at a farmers market means less time in the grocery store, which is always a win in our book! Here are a few farmers markets to check out on Delmarva.
Bethany Beach Boardwalk Arts Festival
On September 9th, a huge art festival will take place on the Bethany Beach Boardwalk. If you are a lover of art and handcrafted items, this festival should not be missed. Get all the details on the Bethany Beach Boardwalk Arts Festival including what artists will be displaying their work.
Fires on the Beach
In our opinion, summer can never have too many fires on the beach at Assateague National Seashore. Be sure to build your fire below the high tide line, and bring a bucket to properly extinguish the fire with water. We also highly suggest s’mores.
All You Can Eat Crabs Plus a Cruise
On September 16th you can experience a Country Music Crab & Cruise in Crisfield. Your first stop will be to the Crab Place Restaurant, where you’ll have all the crabs, shrimp, ribs, fried chicken and sides you can enjoy. After the feast, hop on board the Steven Thomas and enjoy a cruise on the Chesapeake Bay. No better way to close out the summer!
Visit that Restaurant That’ll Soon Be Closed for the Season
There are so many great restaurants that close during the winter. We want to make time to enjoy them before they’re gone. Also consider those restaurants that stay open all year, but have incredible outdoor dining spaces. Get in a few more al fresco dining experiences!
Sunfest
September 21 – 24 brings live entertainment, crafts and delicious food to the Ocean City Inlet with Sunfest. This is also a great time to enjoy the boardwalk and stock up on treats like taffy, fudge and caramel popcorn. We’re also eyeing some fried oreos and funnel cake.
Outdoor Performances
Did you catch our article about Brown Box Theatre Project performing Hamlet across Delmarva for free? With dates through September 23rd, this is a great way to enjoy an end-of-summer evening. If music is more your style, many restaurants and events still have live entertainment to enjoy in an outdoor atmosphere.
Catch a Few More Sunsets
In our opinion, this time of year is the best for catching sunsets. The temperature is still comfortable outside, and the lower humidity tends to produce more vibrant colors. There are so many perfect spots to watch the sunset on Delmarva. If you’d like, you can check out our list of our favorite places to chase sunsets in Ocean City.
