Bringing the sounds from one beach to another, the Reggae band Rebelution performed to a sold out crowd this past Sunday in Salisbury University’s Holloway Hall. After just returning from their Good Vibes Tour, the group put on an unparalleled performance that SU students like Kristina Watts described as “a great show that I’m so glad I got to see.”
The Santa Barbara based band got their start when the group members met in college. They first began playing together in 2004 and quickly developed into a chart-topping group in 2007 with their album Courage to Grow, which featured their most popular song, Safe and Sound. Watts told us, “I was glad they played their older songs as well as their new stuff…they played all of my favorite songs.” The band is also well known for performing at large musical festival venues such as Bonaroo and Lollapalooza.
When word got out that Rebelution would be performing for Salisbury University’s Fall Concert, students barely had time to think before tickets were sold out. Unfortunately, many students missed out on the sold-out show. “I think that’s awesome the concert sold out; the fall concert hasn’t sold out in a couple years so its good to see the student body really respond to this band and the event,” said Watts.
Switching genres completely, another musical group is visiting SU this week. The Salisbury Symphony Orchestra will host the Allegheny Trio, “Beethoven Bookends” Chamber Concert, November 3rd. The Allegheny Trio and guest clarinetist Les Nicholas will perform at 7pm Sunday in the Great Hall of Holloway Hall. Dr. Tim Miller of SU’s History Department will accompany the performers with commentary on the cultural impact of the French Revolution and Beethoven’s musical response. A dessert and champagne reception follows.
Make sure to look out for other local musical performances visiting the Shore. We love an evening of music and won’t want to miss out on any other concerts coming our way with the upcoming holiday season.
