We have our eye on several fantastic events happening this month on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, including the highly anticipated Waterfowl Festival in Easton! The annual event has grown leaps and bounds over the years, flourishing from a small event in 1970 to a regional tradition spanning generations. Art galleries, art events, conservation efforts, kid’s activities, sporting and hunting events, a wine and beer pavilion…need we say more?? The four-day event brings thousands of visitors each year, and for good reason as there is truly a little something for everyone to enjoy.
History of the Waterfowl Festival
Over the past four decades, the Watefowl Festival has become a premier event for Easton, growing from just three small exhibits to more than a dozen venues throughout downtown. With an annual economic impact of nearly $6 million, it’s safe to say this is a big one for Talbot County. The event began in an effort to feature a regional tradition while raising funds to protect our local wildlife. That goal has certainly been met, as millions of dollars has been generated over the years for conservation grants and efforts. What’s more, the event has expanded to appeal to families and those looking to enjoy a beautiful fall weekend on the Eastern Shore. Schedule of Events
One of our favorite aspects of the Waterfowl Festival is that there is truly something for everyone to enjoy, from foodies to outdoor enthusiasts. The fun kicks off on Thursday night with the opening ceremonies and Premiere Night Party spanning the downtown galleries. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are teeming with activities, including a Wine, Beer & Tasting Pavilion, Kids’ Art Activities, Dock Dog Competitions, Retriever Demonstration, Calling Contests, Fly Fishing Demos, and much, much more. The Wine, Beer & Tasting Pavilion will be held on Harrison Street, offering wines and beers, cheeses and sweets. Sportsmen will want to browse the Sportsman’s Pavilion at Easton Elks Lodge, with vendors offering everything from big-game hunting trips to fishing lures. Collectors can buy, sell and swap at Easton High School, while the Artisans Gifts and Workshop takes center stage at Easton Middle School. For the full schedule of events, click here.
We love any excuse to explore downtown Easton, which is home to a terrific array of shopping, dining, and art galleries. Easton is deeply rooted in Eastern Shore history and is currently home to just under 15,000 people. It’s small-town life with a splash of city-feel to it. From the stunning Tidewater Inn to the historic Avalon Theater, from dinner at the Bartlett Pear Inn or Brasserie Brightwell to a stroll through one of the local parks, a day in Easton is always a welcome reprieve.
