March is chocked full of fun events, from the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Ocean City to the annual BrewGrass event at Fager’s Island. In between it all, we’ve got our eye on an amazing fundraiser…and we hope to see you all there! Locals, friends, and family will gather at The Greene Turtle on 116th Street Thursday, March 12 from 6-10pm to help raise money to send local Heather Byrd on a bucket list trip to California.
Byrd has been battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia since she was 16 years old. Unfortunately, after eight years of treatments, hospitals, doctors, and fighting, the cancer has continued to spread. Byrd has made the decision to spend her time with her loved ones of course, but also by knocking off the items on her bucket list, which includes everything from sky diving to traveling. In particular, she is aiming to take a long awaited trip to California. She also plans on marrying her boyfriend of five years. In an effort to help all of Byrd’s bucket list dreams become a reality, local businesses have partnered with friends to raise funds.
So how can you help? For starters, you can make a donation on Byrd’s Go Fund Me page by clicking here. You can also attend the fundraiser at The Greene Turtle on March 12th. 10 percent of the sales from the event will go towards Byrd’s “California Dreaming” Fundraiser. In addition, there will be a 50/50 raffle, as well as a silent auction featuring some stellar prizes from a wide array of local businesses, including Crabs to Go, The Crab Bag, Park Place Jewelers, The Shark, Fishers Popcorn, Robin Walters Salon, Pit and Pub, golf packages, paddleboarding lessons, hotel packages and more! It’s another amazing and inspiring example of our local community joining forces to help one of our own. We hope to see you all there!
