As we age our eyes tell the story of our lifestyle or health. It’s no secret to others when you have restless nights from lack of sleep or too much partying the night before. Also, allergies or other health issues can be a factor.
Here are some common eye symptoms, causes, and how to prevent or treat them:
Are your eyes often blood shot when you wake up?
Dry eyes, dehydration and allergies are most likely the cause, making tiny veins in the white of the eye dilate.
Use hydrating and soothing eye drops. Drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration and put a humidifier in your room while sleeping to help put more moisture in the air. This is highly recommended during the winter months while heating your home.
Do dark circles and eye puffiness seem to always be a problem?
This can be for many reasons so you must determine which causes are related to you specifically:
*Heredity *Allergies *Nasal Congestion *Stress *Smoking *Excess Alcohol *Dehydration *Salty Foods *Thyroid Problems *Kidney Problems *Gluten Intolerance *Celiac Disease *Poor Circulation
Dark circles are often a result when we age and the hollows of eyes create a shadow. As mentioned, there are many other issues like nasal congestion and allergies that will make blood vessels in the eye area appear more prominent. Poor circulation and vitamin deficiencies also play a role.
Make sure you have the proper amount of B and K vitamins, Calcium/Magnesium and a mineral supplement to support adrenal glands. Allergy medicine, only if needed, would help. Use an eye cream/gel with Vitamin K and retinol. Puffiness under the eyes can be reduced when you narrow down the causes.
Here are some helpful tips to lessen the symptoms:
Dampen Chamomile or Green Tea bags; put in freezer for a few minutes then lay down for 10-15 minutes. The tannin in tea can also help to firm skin around your eyes. Cucumber slices and even cold spoons are great for soothing puffiness. I would suggest keeping a cool eye gel mask in the fridge for quick and easy use. Keeping your eye creams/gels in the refrigerator is also helpful.
How you sleep plays a role in the way your eyes look. If you sleep on your stomach or side this can cause fluid to gather in your eye area. Always try to sleep on your back and keep your head elevated.
Treatments:
I offer lymphatic drainage facials that can help move fluids due to some of the common causes. You will see a visible difference in just one treatment.
