We love hearing of new events and festivals on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Delaware and Virginia (not as much as well love attending them of course), so we were thrilled this week when the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce announced a new upcoming summer event – the Wicomico County Fair!
The Wicomico County Fair will take place August 14th, 15th and 16th at Winterplace Park in Salisbury. The Salisbury Chamber of Commerce announced this week that they would be partnering with the Wicomico Farm & Home Show to launch the new event, which aims to expand upon the Farm & Home Show. According to the Chamber, the Farm & Home Show was eager to attract a broader audience by adding new elements to the 78 year old event, while the Chamber was simultaneously looking for ways to continue the tradition of the Delmarva Chicken Festival. The decision to combine forces to create a new event was the obvious choice, allowing both groups to continue the long-standing traditions that have a combined 143 year history on Delmarva.
“Whether it is as a food source or local driver for related industries, agriculture plays an important role of every resident in Wicomico and the surrounding counties,” said Zach Evans, Wicomico Fair & Home Show Vice President. “This event will help us to educate the youth and future generations in this area about agriculture and also show the pride associated with farming and our country and city.”
“The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to team with the Farm & Home Show, creating an entirely new venue called the Wicomico County Fair,” said Ernie Colburn, Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce CEO. “The Wicomico County Fair will be an educational and entertaining weekend event that the entire family can enjoy.”
What to expect? The family-friendly event will include a little something for everyone with live entertainment, food, free kids activities and a car show. There will also be livestock showings, the giant fry pan, educational poultry exhibits, antique tractor pulls and more! Even better…admission and parking for the three-day event is free!
Stay tuned for more updates on the event throughout the summer!
