Being born and raised at the beach, we’ve had plenty of opportunities to ride jetskis, spend an afternoon boating, and take in the aerial views of Ocean City while parasailing. If it’s an outdoor activity, you can guarantee that we’ve tried it. Our friends at OC Jetovator (located on the bayside at 53rd Street) were kind enough to let us come out for a test run last week, introducing us to our latest obsession – taking flight with the OC Jetovator. Naturally the question you are probably asking yourselves is, ‘what the heck is a jetovator’. Well, simply stated the Jetovator is a water sports accessory that is attached to a personal watercraft (PWC). The Jetovator is powered by the water thrust from a forty foot hose that attaches the Jetovator to a PWC, such as a jetski. The water thrust propels and elevates the Jetovator until you are flying (up to 20 feet to be precise) into the air. Sound fun?

“I had a blast,” said our guinea pig, David Haynes. “I am a pretty avid thrill seeker so this was right up my alley.” We didn’t have to do much arm twisting to get Haynes on theDSC_2383-edited Jetovator and after a few failed attempts, he was hovering above the water and, eventually, climbing into the sky. “Once you get going and they give you more power you get a nice combination of speed and height which makes for a pretty intense ride. Not to mention you get a decent workout, using your legs and arms like that.”

Owner Sean Crosariol pointed out that it can be difficult at first, as people often have to make several attempts before getting the hang of it. However, no matter how much you struggle the instructors work patiently with you to ensure that you get up at least once. “To be perfectly honest, girls are typically better. They’re inherently better at following directions, they have better balance and their lighter, so its easier for them to get up out ofDSC_2382-edited the water,” Crosariol quipped. Haynes wasn’t deterred, explaining, “it was challenging at first, which just made me want to master it before we went back in. Once you get standing and find that point of balance where you can maneuver it it gets easier. It’s very similar to riding a motorcycle but with more balance from front to back.”

The OC Jetovator made its initial debut in Ocean City last August. Since then, roughly 50-60 people have taken the ride, and with the summer months finally arriving, we expect those numbers will quickly skyrocket (pun intended). Co-owner Ron Crokur explained that while walk-ups are welcome, reservations are recommended. To make a reservation, visit www.ocjetovator.com or call 410-524-0209. Mention the ShoreBread article and receive a free go-pro video of your ride!

When asked if he would be coming back for another shot at the Jetovator Haynes enthusiastically replied, “absolutely…I’ve already had friends ask me about it and we are planning on going again.”
