It feels pretty good to be saying goodbye to winter and hello to spring! Winter had some high points here on Delmarva, with plenty of fun-filled events, but we’re ready for some spring-centric events, and this weekend is our first taste! Spring cleanups, adult Easter egg hunts, 3rd Friday in Downtown Salisbury, the annual Home, Condo & Outdoor Garden show…take a look at some of the area events happening this weekend:
After Dark Adult Egg Hunt at the Bishopville Volunteer Fire Department
Who said Easter Egg Hunts were only for kids? Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Must be 21 to play, bring a flashlight and a basket and get ready to hunt! Live music will be provided by Days Gone By. Doors open Friday evening at 7pm and the hunting begins at 8pm…every egg found is a winner!
Spring Cleanup & Meetup
The Ocean City Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation will hold their first spring beach cleanup this Saturday, March 21, at the beach in front of Malibu’s Surf Shop (Surf Ave. between 7th and 8th Streets). Kids, friends, family members, and dogs are all welcome! What’s more, the first 15 volunteers will receive a bag of goodies. The cleanup begins at 10am.
Furnace Town’s Annual Cleanup Day
It’s time to start thinking about spring cleaning…both in and out of your own home. Furnace Town is looking for volunteers to help clean up for opening day (which is April 1st). Volunteers are encouraged to bring shovels, rakes, gloves, and any lawn equipment that may help. The cleanup is this Saturday, March 21, from 10am until 4pm.
Empty Bowl Dinner
Volunteers have been hard at work over the past two months to create an arsenal of pottery bowls for the Art League of Ocean City’s Empty Bowl Project. The initiative aims to raise awareness on hunger, while simultaneously raising funds for our local shelter, Diakonia. The fundraiser culminates with the Empty Bowl Dinner, where volunteers will have the chance to purchase their finished product for a $20 donation. The event also includes a simple meal of soup, bread, and desserts, all donated by area restaurants. The dinner will be held this Saturday, March 21, from 5pm until 8pm.
Home, Condo & Outdoor Garden Show
There is something about the annual Home, Condo & Outdoor Garden Show in OCMD that makes us feel as if spring has finally arrived…most likely because it is held every spring, but perhaps because springtime has us itching to start gardening and spring cleaning. Held each year at the Ocean City Convention Center, hundreds of professionals arrive for the event, showcasing their products and expertise. Price of admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors ($55 and up) and students (14-22), and free for kids under 13. The event takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Art of the Belly
This weekend marks the 5th year for the Belly Dance Festival in Ocean City, MD, with four days of shows and workshops at the Carousel Hotel. The event is the largest belly dance festival in Maryland and one of the most popular in the Mid-Atlantic area. Show times are 7pm-10pm Friday; 12pm-10:15pm Saturday; 12pm-5pm Sunday; and intensives available Thursday.
3rd Friday Downtown Salisbury
3rd Friday means we will be making a trip to Downtown Salisbury for arts, music, dining deals and more! This week we have our eye on Kiss Tribute Band, Cold Gin, playing at Headquarters Live at 8pm. Mojos will have Flint Eastwood, Cellar Door will feature Josh Pryor, Echelon is showcasing Zion Reggae Band, and Brew River will have live music from the Bo Dickerson Band. The Road to Assateague Part 1: Famous Storms of Assateague
It’s the 50th Anniversary of Assateague Island National Seashore, and what better way to celebrate than with Part 1 of the Road to Assateague series. Presented by Assateague Island Alliance and the Friends Group of Assateague Island National Seashore, the event will focus on three major storms of the last century and their impacts on the island: the August ’33 storm that created the Inlet, the Ash Wednesday storm of ’62 that destroyed most of the houses on the island, and the ’92 Nor’Easter that caused the park to close for three months. The program begins at 10am, with coffee and refreshments available at 9:30am.
