The Art League of Ocean City’s first Friday opening reception will celebrate artwork of all media including a collaboration of the literary and visual arts, a sweeping exhibit of both two and three dimensional works, and an innovative installation to begin the New Year. The opening takes place Friday, January 2 from 5 to 7 pm at the Ocean City Center for the Arts at 94th Street bayside and is free and open to the public.

Shared Visions, the collaborative works of local literary and visual artists, will open the 2015 year in the Galleria. Twenty-three local artists will display their painted ‘reflections’ inspired by poems and prose written by the Ocean City Writers Group. Join the Art League and Writers Group for a special presentation January 20th from 6-8 pm as the writers read their poems and prose and the visual artists share their experiences. Complimentary refreshments will be served. Please call in advance to reserve your seat, as space is limited.

In the Thaler Gallery this month is the Artist’s Choice Exhibit, an all encompassing 2D and 3D show featuring Art League members and local artists across a variety of themes and media. The competition was judged by artist and UMES professor Joshua Nobiling.

For the first time, Studio E will become the setting for a light installation by artist in residence Sean Michael Kenny. His work explores his passion for topics like quantum physics, typology, the spiritual and subconscious. Delve into this site-specific installation on exhibit this January.

The Spotlight Gallery will feature several members of the Art League who gather regularly to paint at the OC Center for the Arts on Tuesday mornings. These artists all work with watercolor, though each have varying backgrounds and experience. Bring your own supplies and join the Drop-in Painters Tuesdays from 10 am-1 pm for open studio time and a chance to paint with other artists. The cost is $3 and is open to all members.

Artisan in Residence Marisa Longo will be showcasing unique handmade jewelry and sculptures inspired by Assateague Island National Seashore in the retail area.

Continuing in the artists’ studios is the artwork of Tinsel Hughes, Dorothy Harrison Braun and Myrna McGrath, Erik Hertz, and year-round artist in residence David Simpson.

Exhibits run through January 31st. Galleries open daily from 11am-4pm, with extended hours for special classes and events. For more information about offerings at the OC Center for the Arts, contact the Art League at 410-524-9433 or visit www.ArtLeagueofOceanCity.org
