While in New York over the weekend I passed some interesting graffiti while walking around in a SoHo neighborhood. There was a giant red brick wall and it said, Remember, whatever you believe imprisons you. Hmmm…how true! I feel that I am a pretty positive thinker. As a certified Feng Shui Consultant I teach people how to have a positive environment and to focus on a positive outcome on what they really want. As an Esthetician my job is to make others look and feel good about themselves. So I am always helping others try to achieve the good in their lives, but on this particular day it really made me think about mine…was I letting some everyday stuff get the best of me?
I thought just about how I start my day. I wake up exhausted to an annoying sounding alarm clock. I walk in the bathroom and blind myself with a bright light only to look in the mirror to a wrinkled pillow face and crazy nappy head of hair and think ugh…I hate mornings. I just want to go back to bed. Then I have to scoop nasty poop from the cat liter box, find the quickest thing I can to wear and zoom off to Dunkin Donuts for a wake up cup of coffee—and that’s if I make it out of the house early enough so I can make it to work on time. That is messed up! Not a good way to start my day. So that message was kind of a sign to me. A little statement made a big difference to me. So this is what I did:
I sat my phone alarm to "I Feel Good" by James Browne. Now I'm ready to dance when I get out of bed. I actually make my bed as soon as I get out of it so I feel like I have accomplished something already before my day has started. I don't turn on the bathroom light immediately; I wait so my eyes can adjust to the natural sunlight. I turn on a song I love while I'm showering. When I look in the mirror I smile back at myself and say this is going to be a great day! Off I go to work and I skip the coffee that makes me a wired, tired person and go for a healthier choice of herbal tea. So there you go. It is true; you are your thoughts. It is so easy to make your life better just by the simple little things you do.
On a deeper level I have to say really for me, finding that inner peace comes from focusing on what makes a person feel good. So to find yours, ask yourself: what have you always wanted to do? The only thing holding you back is yourself. I know myself that I want to see and do so many things that I get so wrapped up in the wanting to get there that I forget to enjoy the journey along the way. In today's world we all try to over achieve and please everyone that we forget to nurture ourselves. So don't feel guilty about taking a little peace out time for yourself—go get that massage; you deserve it! This is how we come back to our roots of who we really are and who we want to be. With that being said, "Enjoy your journey every step of the way!"
