Here on the Eastern Shore, fall is a time to completely and totally indulge in outdoor activities. Yes you heard that right; we’re talking bonfires, beach picnics, fishing on the Rt. 50 Bridge and crisp morning walks. We love the feeling September, October and November give us and each year we try and take full advantage of the perfect temperatures, warm sunshine and colorful mums.

This year is no different, as usual…  September has begun, offering us 100+ degree mid-day temperatures, warm ocean waters and packed boardwalks on the weekends. Obviously, we don’t hate it, but secretly we are dying for those cool, crisp autumn mornings. (Which usually don’t end up being frequent until late September.)  We’ve decided to give you a rundown of some of our favorite things to do here during the fall season… we suggest you try all of them!

SIDENOTE: THIS LIST IS IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER:

1.)    Go apple picking

Head to Fifer Orchards in Dewey Beach, Delaware to pick some delicious apples. Open Friday and Saturday ONLY, from 10AM to 4PM. You could make it a day date or a family affair. The experience includes a tractor and wagon ride to the orchard and back.

2.)    Head to a corn maze

There are so many of these around the Eastern Shore, they are so easy to find! Each fall we always find ourselves trekking to the nearest produce stand for a day frolicking through the corn maze!

3.)    Make your own hot apple cider

Pick up a pint of apple cider andspikeit and make some for your family.

4.)    Plan a fall bonfire on Assateague

Make hamburgers and hot dogs, bake a loaf of pumpkin bread and make it a cool evening of chilling out by the fire overlooking the ocean.

5.)    Buy pumpkins and mums

New homeowner? Spend a day at the nursery picking out the plumpest pumpkins. When you get home, spruce up your front porch by decorating it with colorful mums and a fall wreath!

6.)    Spend Saturday watching college football

Nothing says fall like Saturday game day, so cook some chicken wings, make some guacamole and invite friends over for a day full of cheering.

7.)    Go for a run

Soak up the sunshine and run in comfortable weather. A few of our favorite spots for a fall run are the boardwalk in Ocean City, the Stephen Decatur Park in Berlin, and the Salisbury City Park.

8.)    Take a day trip

Spend your Saturday with the windows rolled down and head to a town you’ve never been. You’re sure to enjoy the leaves falling and the cool breeze. We took a trip to Oxford recently, including a stop at the Combsberry Inn, which was so adorable we never wanted to leave!

9.)    Go fishing

Whether it is on a boat, or on the shoreline, bait a line and throw it in the water. Rock fishing is huge here in the fall and with fewer boats in the water, there are better chances of catching something! We have plans for an employee outing aboard West OC Watersports’ Flounder Pounder in a few weeks. Stayed tuned for pics!

10.) Just relax

With the second season finally here, most everyone in the resort towns, from Ocean City to Rehoboth lets out a huge sigh of relief. Most of the tourists have cleared out until May and we get to enjoy our sweet town again. Don’t let that scare you though… we believe the best time to come is the fall, so don’t miss out!
